From the sawdust on the floor to the paintings on the
wall, to the delicious food served up family-style, the Brundidge
Historical Society obviously knows instinctively that the public can
be effectively reached through all its senses and has created the
perfect aesthetic atmosphere for preserving Alabamaıs valuable folk
heritage. The We Piddle Around Theater is a "jewel in the lapel" of
Pike County.

The "We Piddle Around Theater" is housed in the
former Brundidge
City Hall building which was built in 1940 as a Works Progress
Administration (WPA) Project. The WPA provided jobs for those who
desperately needed and wanted to work. However, the WPA workers
gained the reputation, rightly or wrongly so, of folks just
"piddling around" rather than putting in a full dayıs hard work. The
WPA was, therefore, dubbed "We Piddle Around."
Brundidge is located in South Alabama on U.S. Highway 231 between Montgomery and Dothan and eight miles south of Troy, home of Troy University. The We Piddle Around Theater is located one mile off the highway at the traffic light in downtown Brundidge. Weıve only got one "stop light" so you canıt miss it. |

The Brundidge Historical Society would like to express special appreciation to the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts for the grants that enabled us to lay the groundwork for a community theater in Brundidge. Without the confidence shown in this project by the state arts council, we might not have undertaken such as ambitious project. We also thank the Alabama License Plate Program for grants for the enhancement of our community theater program. We hope the seeds that have been sown by this project will continue to be fruitful and multiply. |
